Are you bored with the same ole same ole? How many times can you repeat that seemingly mundane task without losing your mind? What is the point? Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired?

If you answered yes to any of the above, then read on. If not, congratulations, read on anyway. You might learn something that you can share with someone. Chances are you can at least relate to one of the questions above and just in case it happens again, my intent is to help you reframe your situation before you quit or go nuts.

Discover– the purpose and the point
Why ARE you frustrated or unfulfilled with (fill in the blank, insert your task here)? Did you ever enjoy it? Is this something that just fell to you or was assumed you would tackle? Maybe it’s your job, a household task, or a volunteer position. I don’t know what you’re dreading. I do know, I understand.

When I took the time to reflect, to discover why I was bored or tired of, I’ll use laundry as an example; I was able to have a new appreciation for the task. What is the relevance to living my purpose in relation to clean socks and folded sheets? With a new outlook, I was able to have a new understanding as well.

Develop– perspective gives it purpose
When I developed a new perspective about the importance of, sticking with our example of laundry, I had a new attitude. Instead of being bothered with endless piles, I realized the blessing of being able to do laundry. Let’s face it; as long as I wear clothes, I’ll have dirty laundry to handle. I might as well find a way to stop dreading the piles.

I GET to do laundry more than once a week. That means I have enough clothes that I am not washing every day. I GET to use machines in my own home. That means I have the convenience of tossing in a load at my choosing. I GET to sort, fold, and smell the freshness of clean clothes. That means my senses are functioning.

Developing appreciation, I dare say even joy or gratitude, speaks to my attitude toward my opportunities. Yet when and how often is still something I need to take into consideration.

Design– plan the process
How often do I do laundry, what time of day I run a load, and what order I wash things in are all considerations as I plan the process. For me, I prefer to space things out over a few days as opposed to a marathon session. I like to start with the dark colors and work my way to the lighter items that require bleach. I use both a rack and hangers to air dry instead of a clothesline.
Each of these is a component that makes laundry a better experience for me. You may have a different method, and that’s perfectly okay. What matters is your awareness that just because someone else folds their towels in thirds, it doesn’t mean you have to as well. What works for you? How do you what to accomplish the goal? Why do you want to complete the task?

Destiny– potential passion
Having stain free, odorless, wrinkle free clothing makes me feel good. When I feel good, I have more energy and confidence. With energy and confidence comes productivity. Through productivity, I can conquer the world! (That might be an overstatement. You get the point, right?)

Let me share another example, as laundry may not be relatable for you. How about your job? Every single job has a purpose. Who are you serving? How is your company adding value to the community? What about the relevance or impact your role has in overall structure? In other words, discover the purpose and point.

Now let’s check your perspective. You’ve got a job. In exchange for your time, you are compensated. What are the benefits offered through your company- holidays off, flexible hours, education reimbursement, sick days, or advancement opportunities? How can you find something redeeming and of value in your current position?

Based on your job, you may not have a lot of opportunity to design your day or the processes you follow. However, can you alter your route to and from work each day? Can you decide what music you listen to while you’re working? Do you have the flexibility to dress as you choose, eat when, where or with whom you desire? You may have to get extremely creative to come up with something you can design. I believe in you. Ask for help from someone else if you get stuck.

Finally, fulfilling your destiny may require a deeper look. Is it time to take a risk and let go? Are the lessons you are supposed to learn and teach been accomplished? Have you outgrown what you are currently doing?

When I discover the point, develop perspective, and design my process, I then have the potential to experience passion and enjoy my destiny. My inner being finds fulfillment in what I am doing. Living fulfilled is living by design instead of default. It’s living a Well Done Life.
