How are Churches like Restaurants?
Stick with me on this one.
Churches are like restaurants because they are both meant to feed us and the offerings at some than are more appealing and healthier than at others.
If I had a “bad”experience at a restaurant, would I stop eating? No, because I’ll soon physically die. I try another one where I might like what they offer and how they serve it. Sure, I can choose to eat at home for every meal, however, I like a change in my normal routine. I think it’s fun to get out and be with others.
If I had a “bad” experience at church do I stop going? No, because I’ll experience spiritual death. I am under attack daily in order to distract and dissuade me from the purpose for which I was created. I need protection for the battle. I need to be around others who can relate to my challenges.
We all crave.
We all have different tastes.
We all need nourishment, regularly.
I can only remain full for so long or I will starve. I need regular “feedings”. If I try to exist, nay thrive on poor quality or random servings, I will not be as strong as I can be.
During my life, I’ve tried many restaurants and many churches. I no longer go to the same of either that I did as a child or that my parents still enjoy. What’s important is that I sought until I found what best feeds me. Will it remain the same forever? Most likely not. My needs will change.
What will remain the same is that I will always have a need and I because I choose to remain healthy and grow, I will not let a “bad” experience determine my sustenance.
Are you hungry? Are you hurting? There’s food and hope for you. Seek and you will find. Stop tasting and you won’t.
